  Born abt. 1793, William Clonts (Clontz) was a farmer in the Chesterfield area of Burke County. He was the husband of Mary Polly Clark Clontz and father of 10 children. His third child, Susan A.Clontz, married my husband's ggg grandfather, Ephraim M. Lane. [3] ----- The following list is taken from the Secretary of State's Papers in the North Carolina State Archives. This is a list of Burke County Land Warrants and Surveys 1778-1858. This list contains the file number of acres and location of the claim: "0422 Clonts, William 14 May 1824 38 1/2 (not 50) acres beginning at a post road his corner & runs S". ----- Was reported in the household of his son, William, during the 1870 Caldwell County Census...DAH. _____ I find it curious that there is a seven-year period between his first child, Mary, and the rest of his children.
