412 | Clonts, Ada Cornelia Bowers- age 90, of Knoxville, passed away Friday, May 3, 2013, at NHC St. Mary's. She was a member of Central Baptist Church Fountain City. Preceded in death by husband, Homer B. Clonts; parents, Earl Edward and Maude Bowers; brothers, Earl (Bud) Bowers, Jr., and Charles Bowers; sisters, Doris Lyons and Betty VanGuilder. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Tom Farrington; grandsons, Kevin Farrington, and Shawn (Jennifer) Farrington of Florence, KY; twin great-granddaughters, Kearin and Kaylin Farrington; brother-in-law, Bill Lyons; sister-in-law, Janice Bowers; and several nieces and nephews. The family and friends are invited to attend her graveside service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Lynnhurst Cemetery with Rev. Ron Mouser officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel. The family would like to offer special thanks to the entire staff of NHC Healthcare. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fountain City Ministry Center (P.O. Box 5311 Knoxville, TN 37928). 425 | Clontz, George (Clounce) Summary of Early Life: Born Mecklenburg Co.,NC, May, 1760. He was living in Mecklenburg Co.,NC, at the beginning of the Revolution (that part which later became Cabarrus Co.) Summary of Military Service: George Clontz entered revolutionary service in May, 1778 for a nine-month tour in the North Carolina Continental Line, Mecklenburg Co.,NC, under General William Lee Davidson and Major John Armstrong. He marched to Charleston,SC, in a company commanded by Captain Jack. They advanced to Purysburg,SC, where he was placed in Captain Goodin's Company and attached to a light horse company under the command of Colonel Malmedy. They were in several skirmishes with the British prior to the Battle of Stono. He took part in the Battle of Stono (June 20, 1779). After this battle he was in an encampment at Bacon's Bridge. Shortly afterwards, he became ill and was sent to the American Hospital in Camden,SC (August, 1779). He was taken from the hospital to Mecklenburg County by his father. Clontz had attained the rank of sergeant at time of his discharge. Summary of Later Life: Married Chloe Cline, Mecklenburg Co.,NC, 1783 (she was age 78 in 1844). Daughter Catherine Clontz born 1785. In 1802, he moved to Burke Co.,NC. He lived there until a later age when he moved to Buncombe Co.,NC. George Clontz applied for Revolutionary War pension, Burke Co.,NC, in 1833 at age 73. He was awarded $30.00 per annum. He died October 20, 1838, in Buncombe Co.,NC. His widow was pensioned in 1844. She died March 1, 1847. George said that his father came and took both he and his brother home. George made his sworn statement January 28, 1833, in Burke County." Funeral services were held Sept. 1 at Bilbrey Funeral Home, with Bro. Bernie Barton officiating. Interment was in Pomona Cemetery. She was born May 27, 1927, in Sparta, the daughter of Charles Sparkman and Gladys (Rascoe) Sparkman. She worked as a school teacher and was a member of the Church of Christ at Pleasant Hill. She is survived by her son, Anthony I. Farris (Stephanie) of Crossville; daughter, Andrea Marshall (Tracy) of Crossville; brothers, Leroy Sparkman and Gene Sparkman, both of McMinnville, and Donald Ray Sparkman of Algood; sister, Dorothy Hudson of Sparta; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Homer Farris; second husband, Walter Harding; and parents, Charles and Gladys (Rascoe) Sparkman.
